Thank you, but that wasn't the problem. There are known issues
regarding hard-code directory names{!} in the Oracle compiler that
expect "program files" instead of "Program Files (x86)". Apparently
there are work-arounds, but they are extremely tedious. Since Oracle
hasn't released an update to 10g (except for a mysterious patch that
doesn't seem to exist on their servers), and they are giving permission
to use 11g, my guess is that's my only realistic option. I'm just
trying to weasel out of a mult-gig install for something I'll only use
rarely.
