As someone caught up in this... my Company imports and distributes
packaging for the produce and ready meal industry, in a time of fast
rising prices both for packaging (we're experiencing 30% rises overall,
100% rises in raw materials in the last year) and for base ingredients
(flour has risen an astronomical amount) there is a reluctance by the
consumer to accept increased prices. That leaves two options, the
retailer and manufacturer loose money by taking a hit (well the retailer
NEVER will take a hit, I've got stories to tell that'd make you cringe)
the only option being to reduce the portion size and keep the price the
same.

I have eight projects ongoing to reduce punnet size by approx. 10% for
pre-packed produce that you'll find in your local supermarkets in both
Europe and the US....

I could tell you for whom... but then I'd have to shoot you...

Subject: [OT] Dishonest retail products

Hi Everybody,

Make people love you by deceiving them.

"With unemployment still high, companies in recent months have tried to
camouflage price increases by selling their products in tiny and tinier
packages. So far, the changes are most visible at the grocery store,
where shoppers are paying the same amount, but getting less."
