Connecting to Microsoft SQL Server from PowerBuilder Using the Native Interface
Overview
This document is designed to provide assistance in connecting to Microsoft SQL Server versions 6.x, 7.0, and 2000 using the native driver interface from PowerBuilder. PowerBuilder's native interface is compliant with SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 but has not been enhanced to provide access to all new features of those releases due to limitations in the underlying DB-Library API layer which Microsoft is no longer supporting. For PowerBuilder 7.0 and later, the recommended interface for accessing SQL Server 7.0 and subsequent releases is the OLE-DB interface. This document is a supplement to the information provided in the PowerBuilder Connecting to your Database manual.
Microsoft SQL Server Client Software
Microsoft client software needs to be installed for the proper platform before any connections can be made from PowerBuilder to your target database.Verifying your Microsoft SQL Server Connection
Once you have installed the necessary client-side software provided by Microsoft, make sure that you can connect outside of PowerBuilder (using Microsoft's ISQL client, for instance) before you attempt to connect from within PowerBuilder. This is necessary to determine that you can establish a connection from your workstation using the client software. From this point it should be easy to connect from PowerBuilder.Matching the drivers at connect time
You select a specific PowerBuilder native driver when you supply the DBMS value in your database profile. This entry is used to populate the DBMS property of the transaction object. To connect using the specified DBMS value, in this case 'MSS', you must have installed the associated PowerBuilder native driver and the related Microsoft client side support DLLs.http://www.sybase.com/detail?id=47903
Install and configure the database server, network, and client software
You must obtain the database server software from your database vendor. For installation instructions, see your database vendor's documentation. For installation and configuration instructions for your network software, see your network administrator.
To determine the client software requirements, see your data provider's documentation. Most providers require the client software already be installed.
Connect an Access project to a Microsoft SQL Server database (ADP)
Applies to: Microsoft Office Access 2003
Some of the content in this topic may not be applicable to some languages.
You can connect a Microsoft Access project to a Microsoft SQL Server database.
If the Access project is already connected to a Microsoft SQL Server computer, you can change that connection.
Supported Microsoft SQL Server databases
Open the Access project that you want to connect to a Microsoft SQL Server.
On the File menu, click Connection. If the Connection menu command is not visible, click the arrows at the bottom of the File menu to display the entire list.
NOTE The Connection command is available only when an Access project file (a file with an .adp extension) is open.
On the Connection tab in the Data Link Properties dialog box, enter a server name and the information necessary to log on to the server, and then select the database on the server. For additional information, clickHelp in the Data Link Properties dialog box.

Microsoft Access and SQL Server Integration
We have a few SQL sandbox databases set up in our environment that allow our developers and some key end-users the ability to do some temporary development without expectations of performance or durability. Quite often these individuals will want to use Access as their front-end GUI tool for these databases. Realizing that this solution exposed the Database Administrator to endless phone calls asking for assistance, I developed a document that anyone could follow in order to get an SQL-via-Access implementation up and running on their own. This is the first of four tips focusing on connecting Microsoft Access to a SQL database.
The tips in this series are:
- Create an ODBC Data Source Name (DSN) using the standard SQL Server client.
- Create an ODBC Data Source Name (DSN) using the SQL Native Client (SNAC).
- Linking an Access table to SQL Server
- Creating a SQL Pass-Through query

Mas Donal. Terimakasih atas tanggapannya.
menyertakan MS Access Runtime kedalam installer Inno Setup.
Hal berbeda terjadi jika saya bermaksud menghubungkan ke IBM DB2.
saya mutlak harus punya DB2 runtime client.
Kalau ndak ya tidak bisa terhubung.
Mohon maaf mas Donal. Saya ndak ngerti teorinya yang canggih-canggih. ☺
Tapi kan saya ngomongnya berbasis pengalaman.
Biasanya sih saya cek, di ODBC Data Source Administrator.
Driver SQL Servernya ada tidak.
Kalau ada. Yang berarti bisa konek.
Kalau nggak ada, begitu saya install Access Runtime, muncullah ia. ☺
Oh iya.

Misalnya sbb:
Cnn = “ODBC; PROVIDER={SQL SERVER};SERVER= TULIS_IP_ SERVER_ATAU_ NAMA_KOMPUTER_ SERVER;DATABASE= NAMA_DATABASE; UID=NAMA_ LOGIN;PWD= PASSWORD_ LOGIN”
Kebetulan saya pake Access Project.
Application. CurrentProject. OpenConnection cnn
Dan aplikasi sdh terhubung dengan sukses.
