Got the J keyboard to work again. Spent some time figuring out what is
going on. Much of this many of you probably already know, but some may
not. And there are some curious features buried in there.

My original problem was that I couldn't activate the J keyboard or any
other keyboard and got bogged down with the dimmed checkbox for the
Android keyboard. I used to switch keyboards by going to System
Settings and changing the input keyboard by selecting the one I
wanted. I found out that this is a list of eligible keyboards and one
can change keyboards in various methods depending on the active
keyboard. When the Android keyboard is active holding the space bar
will pop up the keyboard selection list. The Hacker's keyboard has a
double circle next to the number shift in portrait mode. I can't find
a way to select another keyboard from the J keyboard. Seems like I
remember that I could select other keyboards by holding down in the
display part of the J screen. That doesn't work any more. To get out
of the J keyboard I had to go to Systems Settings and disable the J
keyboard as eligible, then re-eligible it. Looks like there needs to
be a way to select keyboards added to the J keyboard.

Played with voice recognition. It worked surprisingly well. Voice
recognition connects with Google voice recognition service over the
internet. Need internet access to use it. It works with all keyboards
if it is allowed by the keyboard. Words that are numbers produce
digits instead of the words and words like "plus" generate a + sign
when used with numbers and the word "plus" when not with numbers. I
tried several other words like "times" and "minus" which also work.
But I couldn't find a word which generated the return key. Searched
the internet and couldn't find a really good list of eligible words
for symbols. And don't know what all the rules are for deciding when
to put digits or symbols instead of words.
