Joe - This avoids the problem - I'm able to plot with 64-bit J8 now - thanks!
I don't know why I need to load this if I'm in jconsole but I'm afraid maybe some of the graphics utilities have gotten entangled with the Qt stuff. I'll look into it further. This is part of my effort to move entirely over to J8 from J7 - I think I'm about 90% there now.
