Hi Ian,
My understanding is that this folder contains snap shots of files/projects
that are created as a backup.
You can set the number of Snap shots to keep in the Qt Ide configuration
file (see Edit|Configure|Qt Ide)
You can compare the currently open version of script to older versions
using Script|Script Snapshot.
You can create project snapshots using the Project|Make Snapshot.

Having said that I haven't used these features much. Chris Burke will
probably be the best person to explain any intricacies.
