Mike is being too modest about his own indispensable contributions to the app's successful debut. He has been asking all the right questions, and patiently been testing my half-answers. For that reason I don't consider my effort spent on supporting an iOS 12 version for Mike's benefit was at all wasted.
However in the long term it is wasted, because App Store won't accept an app supporting anything lower than the current iOS – 14.5 at the time of submission. J-ers, brave smart individuals, are typically early adopters, which means a lot of us have obsolete iOS devices that won't upgrade to the lowest iOS level the app needs. Whereas I've no compunction about recommending purchase of a $9.99 bt keyboard to make it really sing, I quail at suggesting $300-$500 for a new iPad (I'm guessing the US price) just to run the app. Eric's j701 is still available however, and App Store shows it as needing iPadOS 10.3 or later. So (old iPad owners): search App Store on: j701 and if you can see it, you can still have J on your Apple device. Incidentally, if you have a Mac with the M1 chip, App Store on the Mac shows "J901" and you can download it & run it. But it carries the warning "Not verified on the Mac" – and some of the features are a bit iffy. (No beeps, for example.) To be frank, you'll want to stick to jqt. Multiple overlapping screens and a mouse did have something going for them. But if you only want to see what it does (kinda…) you don't have to fork out for a new iPad just to run it.
