Andrew, I agree that J in Jupyter is a great option that should be highlighted along with the other options of running J. I would position the J Playground as a step up in capabilities and difficulty from the J Playground - particularly for those who have never used Jupyter.
I would propose it be added to: 1. https://code2.jsoftware.com/mediawiki/index.php/System/Installation or maybe the J Playground Help Page (https://code.jsoftware.com/wiki/Playground ) 2. J Playground Links menu (I added https://github.com/jsoftware/j-playground/issues/83) The main downside to the JupyterLab link was that it could take a few minutes to spin up and may be off-putting to brand new users. The J Playground also more closely mimics the QT interface so moving to along the new user journey, downloading and running J should feel somewhat familiar to someone who has used the playground That being said, someone coming from a python or R background may find the Jupyterlab interface more comfortable. I use Jupyter for several hours a day every day so it's where I feel most at home. As a thought, we could consider having a new tile on the newcomers page ( https://code2.jsoftware.com/mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page/newcomers) : "Applying J" ... Applying J ======== By Field ------------- Mathematics Data Science Astronomy Finance System Tools General Purpose Programming ... Programming Experience ---------------- R / Rstudio / Jupyter Python / Jupyter C ... The "By Field" pages could list out some ways of applying J in different fields / topical areas. The "Programming Experience" pages could list out some tips/tricks for people coming from prior programming experiences with suggestions on how to get started, and where we could also highlight the JupyterLab kernel On Wed, Jun 1, 2022 at 5:34 PM Andrew Olal <olalludiring...@gmail.com> wrote: > In addition to the wonderful work being done with the J Playground, I think > it would be worthwhile exploring the option of running J in the JupyterLab, > which has most of the features being built in the J playground + more. > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
