This is the first I've heard of the Debian alternatives system. I had
previously installed the beta version in /usr
$ tar xpzf j9.4_linux64.tar.gz
$ cd j9.4/bin
$ sudo ./install-usr.sh
[sudo] password for lambertdw:
this script will install j system on /usr
/home/lambertdw/Downloads/j9.4/bin
update-alternatives: priority '9.4' must be an integer
Use 'update-alternatives --help' for program usage information.
