Thanks to everyone! I now understand things better. That’s one of the things I like about J. It forces you unravel the confronted computing task in a “deep” manner. Not just hack a solution (although you can if you want) The “unravelling” is great feedback for my understanding of the subject matter. (In this, my case, it was Quantum Mechanics/Computing — trying to come to grips with “kets” and the various operations associated therewith).
Again thanks to everyone who gave feedback. > On 16 Sep 2023, at 11:35, Devon McCormick <devon...@gmail.com> wrote: > > If you build a GUI input window, you could probably distinguish between the > different cases but the key is to get input as character. > > On Fri, Sep 15, 2023 at 3:43 PM Elijah Stone <elro...@elronnd.net> wrote: > >> No. No more than you can distinguish 2+2 from 2 + 2. >> >> On Sat, 16 Sep 2023, Piet de Jong wrote: >> >>> But there is a typographical difference. >>> And I guess this is the difference I would like to pick up. >>> Are typographical differences only distinguishable using character input? >>> >>>> On 16 Sep 2023, at 05:24, Elijah Stone <elro...@elronnd.net> wrote: >>>> >>>> There is no difference between 011 and 11, nor between 008 and 8. >>>> >>>> On Sat, 16 Sep 2023, Piet de Jong wrote: >>>> >>>>> I meant a general verb u such that >>>>> 011 -:&u 11 >>>>> 008 -:&u 8 >>>>> etc are all false. >>>>> >>>>>> On 16 Sep 2023, at 04:50, Elijah Stone <elro...@elronnd.net> wrote: >>>>>> u=: 1 -: 3!:0 >>>>> >>>>> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>>> For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm >>>> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >>>> For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm >>> >>> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >>> For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm >> ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >> For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm >> > > > -- > > Devon McCormick, CFA > > Quantitative Consultant > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
