These are all good questions.
What is "alias"?
platimg was developed for j601 all the time, I believe.
My understanding is that j504 is now obsolete and the
effort should be focused on j601 onwards. (E.g. j601 has
has huge improvements in efficiency and simplicity of
the call dll insterface, which would be a pain to downgrade
for all three platforms--you have learnt that it's not easy.)
On the other hand, specifying quality for output formats
is an interesting feature, which was thought of and put off
till phase 2, awaiting user feedback, which eventually came.
I am thinking of having a set of global hint attributes
(nouns) in pplatimg locale specifying quality, transparency,
and other things that could be used by the convertion
mechanism.
