Yes, just like I could use a.&i. :. ({&a.) instead of a.&i. or ;: :.
(}:@;@(,&' '&.>"1)) instead of ;: or +. :. (j./"1"_) instead of +. ,
etc etc etc.
One of J's raison d'etre is its elegance and concision as a notation. Another
its its level of abstraction and detail handled for its users. In each of the
couples cited, including yours, I find the latter phrase a more compelling
illustration of these philosophies.
