I am just returning to this now. Your tacit solution is far superior to my original attempt, even by such a crude metric as character count. I need to study it in more detail, but I must say I appreciate how you walked through it on that page. One improvement I might suggest to the page, is that you adopt Roger's convention of collecting your definitions at the end (e.g [1]). This will help the impatient (like me!) get immediate gratification, and also serves to present your solution in its full glory. Also, I suggest you adopt the general Wiki convention of allowing comments on your pages, or at least of having a centralized "RE comments" page linked to from your home page. But generally, I dislike "immutable pages" on the Wiki (which is intended to be collaborative). > I have no intention to cooperate in Rosetta. Would you object if I may presented your tacit solution, or an adaptation of your solution, on RC? One drawback is that on RC (and wikis in general), contributions are not attributed, so I couldn't give you credit. But if you prefer to retain credit, I'm happy to link directly to the URL above (provided you grant me edit permission on that page, so I could make minor or aesthetic modifications). -Dan [1] http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/Essays/N%20Queens%20Problem#CollectedDefinitions ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
