Ed, cut is a utililty verb inside package 'strings' cut=: ' '&$: :([: -.&a: <;._2@,~)
That package will be automatically loaded in J7. Did you try the revised msexcel.ijs that I posted in response to David's comment? If that still fails I can find a computer with excel for testing.
