Thanks to all, esp. Dan Bron, for the newbie assistance! I think I need to go away and play with J for awhile, but I did have one more follow-on question re. symbols:
The J for C section on s: mentions that individual symbol resources cannot be freed up. Is there a known limit to how many symbols I could have at one time? In the clinical usage I was thinking of, if I start encoding all possible medication names, and clinical adverse event terms, dosage instructions, units of measure, etc., the symbol count could get into the hundreds of thousands easily.
