the other approach is to ignore the "Switch To" message as it is still working in the background. That "Switch To" message looks serious though... and it flashes and stuff. Pretty distracting. Another solution I saw was to have a special machine just for excel + press a switch monitor button to see if it has finished occasionally. That was in a large bank.
