I believe your assessment is correct and I think that this strategy would
yield something much nicer to work with. Have you started working along
these lines? If you have and feel strongly about continuing, I suppose
you're welcome to. But, I think this might be a good thing to add to
Valkyrie's docket; she's been doing search syntax work which has had her
making similar observations of search_engine.py.
