Comment (by simko):

Being in an RC phase of Invenio v1.0 release series, it is naturally
good to stick to Python-2.4 as the minimally supported Python version.
Besides, keeping the compliance is easy and cheap.

For new feature developments and Invenio v1.1 release series, we shall
most probably raise the minimal requirement to Python-2.6.

Independently of when the raise actually happens, we can consider
switching to Python-2.6 on our RHEL5/SLC5 production boxes any time,
even immediately. The `python26` packages are readily available for
the `el5` architecture, e.g. in EPEL or in IUSCommunity. We already
 use them for Trac.
