The Product Owner manages the product backlog pulling items, which provide the most value to the customer into the release backlog in preparation for release planning. The Product Owner has a significant role in the planning event itself, as the main point-of-contact for questions and clarification of user stories. - Backlog Management: The Product Owner has the primary responsibility for building, refining, and maintaining the product backlog. The backlog consists mostly of user stories, but also includes defects, technical debt, and infrastructure work. Backlog items are prioritized based on user value, time, and other team dependencies, which are determined in Release Planning. - Release Planning: During Release Planning, the Product Owner is involved with user story definition, writing acceptance criteria, providing the clarifications necessary to assist the team with their story estimates, sprint planning, story sequencing, and drafting the team’s specific objectives for the upcoming sprints. - Quality: The Product Owner monitors ongoing performance of features and acts as point-of-contact for questions, concerns, and suggestions. The Product Owner provides input on test strategy and test cases, being an advocate of quality solutions that meet or exceed defined customer expectations. The Product Owner performs reviews with key internal stakeholders and commercial customers throughout the design lifecycle to ensure alignment of solution designs and requirements. - Leadership: The Product Owner holds self and project team accountable for their deliverables to ensure timely, cost effective project execution. *15% Stakeholder Management & Communications* - The Product Owner is responsible for gathering input from and managing expectations of all major stakeholders in a software development cycle including product management, marketing, customer support, scrum master, project management, and development team members. - The Product Owner is responsible for leading team meetings and scrum ceremonies, owning communications to stakeholders and generally, being the face of the product in all meetings and updates. - The Product Owner develops strong relationships with all development and business stakeholders in order to ensure timely and effective delivery of software features and defect resolutions. - In collaboration with other team members, the Product Owner develops key product documentation as needed. - The Product Owner creates and maintains long-term working relationships with product management, other product owners, technology teams, functional counterparts, vendors, stakeholders, customer service, and go-to-market, and commercial customers. - The Product Owner engages and influences key stakeholders and commercial customers to help contribute to their targeted product development and business outcomes. - The Product Owner engages and influences project managers, development engineers, quality assurance engineers, and technical writers to ensure productivity and solution quality. - The Product Owner prepares and executes training of users and colleagues from all disciplines. - The Product Owner champions collaboration and enables delivery in this team environment. *5% Competitor Knowledge* - The Product Owner partners with Product Management, Marketing, and GTM to understand the competitive landscape. - The Product Owner monitors the functional/product landscape for changes in competitive positioning. - The Product Owner assists Product Management and Marketing in creating side-by-side comparisons of competitors’ products and features. *Other Requirements* - Project demands may, from time to time, require work during non-standard business hours.
