Summary: One of the FAQ suggestions is dangerous for projects using GNU Arch

Original Submission: (This is really more of a documentation issue, so I set category
to None.)

"Download Server -- How do I put files in the download area ?", to be precise. If the
user has set up a GNU Arch archive mirror as instructed in the related FAQ answer, the
given rsync command will happily delete it.

Adding "/files" to the rsync destination would fix this problem, though a warning
could be in order. I ran across this issue the hard way, though it was nothing that a
repeat of the arch repository instructions didn't repair.

Also, it's apparently perfectly feasible to upload files using sftp, which the FAQ
doesn't mention.

security-wise there is no question that encouraging users to use sftp over rsync is
the best approach. Ease of use and slightly less bandwidth are the reasons for rsync,
and those are probably overshadowed by rsync's historied exploits.

I added Jerome Marant in Cc, he is the author of the relevant FAQ entry and it is
better to let him reply.

Well, a FAQ purpose is to provide one way to go, not necessarily every way possible :)
