Have you read http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/XMLHttpRequest?
XMLHttpRequest is the easiest way.

I'm sure input streams work on FTP channels too. In fact, Gecko also

includes FTP upload, but not (yet!) the other things FireFTP does such
as rename or delete.
