While the various vehicle system templates are parameterized, the concrete
vehicle models included in the Chrono distribution have parameters that are
fixed to values corresponding to that model. In general, changing a parameter
means effectively modeling another vehicle. Having said that, I agree that the
mass and inertia properties of the vehicle chassis represent a special case,
because these could change due to different payload conditions (I assume this
is the difference between your test vehicle and the one we used to set up the
Chrono::Vehicle FEDA model). I will look into adding a mechanism in
Chrono::Vehicle to control this (different payload levels).

In the meantime, to match the vehicle mass of your test vehicle, you will need
to modify locally the FEDA model (in particular, adjust the chassis mass in
FEDA_Chassis.cpp<https://github.com/projectchrono/chrono/blob/22acf38c21563497fdeda6b4b1794f28d96ea6eb/src/chrono_models/vehicle/feda/FEDA_Chassis.cpp#L40>).
Note that for some of the vehicle models in Chrono we also provide a
specification through JSON files, in which case such adjustments are easier to
do (as they would not require recompilation). That was not possible for the
FEDA model because of the more complex model of the FEDA suspension which
required custom code (for the air springs and shocks; see
FEDA_DoubleWishbone.cpp<https://github.com/projectchrono/chrono/blob/main/src/chrono_models/vehicle/feda/FEDA_DoubleWishbone.cpp>)
and could not be reproduced with the limitations imposed by a JSON
specification.

Subject: [chrono] Change mass of FED Alpha vehicle

Hello,
I am currently modelling the Pychrono simulation with FED Alpha vehicle and
comparing the results with test vehicle such as torque, tractive forces, power
and energy consumption. However, the mass of the test vehicle is 6700kg where
as the simulation mass is 6362kg. The setmass() function is giving me an error
and I cannot set vehicle chassis mass. I was able to change the tire radius by
modifying the TIR file, Is there a similar way or any other way to change the
mass of the FED Alpha vehicle in simulation?
Thank you.
