Rana Bhattacharyya commented on FTPSERVER-6:
--------------------------------------------

Hi Sergey,

I can understand the issue you have. At this moment I am trying to generate
developer interest. So the first thing we have to do is to get the developer
attention as much as possible. In fact this is the reason I have updated the
site very recently and sending mails to the mailing lists so frequently. I also
sent a mail to the mailing list to give you the commiter access but nobody
replied. The basic problem is lack of interest. If we can increase the interest
level then everybody has to listen and reply mails. This is also a task we have
to do.

The project activity includes coding, writing doc, testing, infrastructure
related activities and generating developer interest. Infrastructure wise now
we have migrated to SVN, we have our own mailing lists. Generating interest is
a very very important task. Unless we have a big developer and user circle, we
will be working in vain.

Now the question - why I did not apply the file system patch. There are three
reasons.

1. As you know all of us work whenever we have some free time. I was busy in my
office work for the last two weeks. In fact I doubt whether I can do any
development work in this month. Commiting patch will take 10 mins ..... but as
this will be a major commit, first we have to discuss about it.

2. Sometime I think the patch will be useful and sometime I think we will loose
the server API simplicity and unnecessarily we will introduce FTPLET API
complexity. So we need to discuss it before this commit. Hopefully next week I
should be able to send you a detailed mail about my confusion. So then we will
have a healthy discussion and decide what to do.

3. It will be great if you can directly commit files but for this we have to
gain some momentum. This is what I am doing now. If we increase the mailing
list activity then our mails will not be ignored. Then we can introduce other
commiters and move out of incubation.

I hope you will understand this.
