Maid Dies Saving Young Boy

JEDDAH, 6 July 2005 - An Indonesian maid died in a fire here
on Monday. The fire broke out on the third floor of a residential building.
According to the boy's father, he heard the screams of his
son and the maid when he was on the ground floor. When he went to see what was
wrong, he saw smoke coming from the windows, Al-Watan reported. He was unable
to go to the upper floor because of thick smoke.
The Indonesian maid managed to put the child in a bathroom
and turned the water on in order to protect him from the heat. While she was at
a window calling for help, she was overcome by smoke and fainted.
The Fire Department arrived at the scene, broke into the
apartment and took the child and maid to a nearby medical clinic. The maid was
pronounced dead on arrival while doctors managed to save the eight-year-old boy
by giving him oxygen.
A doctor at the clinic said the maid had died as a result of
smoke inhalation while the boy's condition is now stable.
