Indonesia's Bakrie to build power project

JAKARTA - PT Bakrie & Brothers is finalizing the feasibility study on a steam
powered electricity generating project with a capacity of 1,320 megawatts in
Cirebon, West Java.

Construction of the project was delayed since 1996 when the government shelved
a number of large projects under tight monetary measure.

The project is estimated to cost US$1.4 billion and its construction is
expected to start next year, Bakrie President Bobby Ghafur Umar said.

Bobby said the project will be built in cooperation with International Power
Ltd from Britain and Toyota Toshu Co from Japan.

Construction is expected to be completed in 36-40 months, he said.

Bakrie in a consortium with Babcock also takes part in a tender to build
another power plant in the same city with a capacity 600 MW.
