AFP, Indonesian police crack major drug ring The Australian Federal Police (AFP) say they have smashed what is believed to be the largest pseudoephedrine syndicate to ever target Australia. A joint operation between the AFP, Customs and Indonesian National Police (INP) has resulted in the arrest of six people and the seizure of 380 kilograms of the drug since February last year. The AFP says the drugs could have been made into more than $71 million worth of methamphetamine. Two Indonesian men - one of whom is a resident of Australia - were detained by Indonesian police on June 20. The initial breakthrough in the investigation came on June 13 when Customs uncovered $22 million worth of pseudoephedrine tablets hidden inside a shipping container at Port Botany in Sydney after arriving from Jakarta. Customs and the AFP formed a joint investigation which monitored the delivery of the container and consequently charged four people and seized approximately 2 million pseudoephedrine tablets on June 18. One of the four persons charged in Sydney yesterday appeared in court and was granted bail.
