Photographer: Jewel Samad/AFP/Getty Images Gunmen killed Pakistan's minister for minorities' affairs, Shahbaz Bhatti, in Islamabad today in the second high-profile slaying in the capital this year. Bhatti, a member of Pakistan's Christian minority, was brought dead to the hospital after gunmen fired at his car near his residence, Azmatullah Quraishi, a spokesman for the Al-Shifa Hospital, said by telephone. Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab province, was assassinated early this year. Bhatti called for changes to Pakistan's blasphemy law, which prescribes the death penalty for anyone convicted of insulting the Prophet Muhammad, founder of Islam. Bhatti and other critics of the law say it has been used by Islamic religious conservatives to attack members of minority groups and religious moderates. Taseer was killed Jan. 4 by a bodyguard in Islamabad after he called for changing the same law. Bhatti was attacked by four gunmen as he left his residence without security, Geo television reported, citing a police official Bin Yamin.
