Letter: On 'Defending Ahmadiyah' | Thu, 05/12/2011 9:59 AM | Readers Forum In reference to Aries Musnandar's letter "Why do you defend Ahmadiyah?" published on the Post dated April 29, 2011, allow me to share my views. The holy Koran advises us, "Do not say 'you are not Muslim' to anyone who says to you [peace be on you]" (Koran:4:95). A saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) defines a Muslim in these words, "One who says prayers like us, facing [Mecca ] and eating our slaughters is a Muslim, whose protection is the responsibility of Allah and His Messanger. So, do not disrespect the responsibility of Allah" (Bukhari Kitab-ul-Sholat). Moreover, Ahmadis around the world believe in and practice, wholeheartedly, the six components of faith and the five pillars of Islam. They also believe that the holy Koran is the final book of Allah, and that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the "Khattaman Nabiyeen" (seal of all prophets). They also agree with the majority of Muslims on all those verses of the Koran and sayings of the Prophet, where the coming of Jesus, the son of Mary (may Allah be pleased with him) in latter days is mentioned with a minute difference. The difference is that Ahmadis believe - according to the Koran and sayings of the Prophet - that Jesus, the son of Mary, passed away. Ahmadis are not alone, differing from other Muslims, on this matter. Ibne Abbas, Imam Bokhari, Imam Malik, Mahmood Shaltoot (An ex-professor at Al-Azhar University, Cairo), the late Buya Hamka (a prominent ex-figure in Muhammadyah and the author of Tafsir Al-Azhar) and many more, are of same opinion with Ahmadis, in this respect. So, according to Ahmadis, the meaning of the "coming of Prophet Jesus in latter days" is not literal but metaphorical. For example, in the same way a noble person is sometimes called an "angel" or evil person a "devil".
