Hi Gene, I use an HP CD burner at home and at work to accomplish my backups. The CD burners use Adaptec's Direct CD version 2.5. I ran into this problem when selecting an option to format the CD so that it would be useable on any CD drive. If I choose this option (which is selectable when you eject the disc), then the files on the CD are formatted to be read only. If you instead choose the option to leave the disc formatted so that it can be read as a normal drive letter, then the files are not write protected. Don't know if you're using the same configuration, I just thought I would pass on my experience. Good Luck, Max P.
