Some basic questions:

1. Check your "Event Viewer" system log & application log, are there any
system startup errors mentioned there?

2. Check windows update, have you both installed SP1 & all of the security
updates installed?  Those nasty security updates fix things.

3. What is the size of your virtual ram paging file?  Sometimes, as an
option, Win2K presets this to 150% of you system memory by default.  I keep
mine at 1024MB.

4. Which video card & sound card do you use?

5. Any anti virus software running in the background?
