To the Most Worshipful Mystic Masters, One knocks at your portal seeking enlightenment on the seven-fold path. While I have learned enough about my copy of Protel 99SE/SP6 to realize that "learning Protel" is a life-long project; I am wondering if there is a more elegant solution for PLDs in schematic capture that the basic brute-force approach of creating an "User-I/O-Pin" version of the component in the library, and then doing a "Component Copy, Rename, and Edit" for each instance for a "programmed PLD"? I ask this question because I might easily be still too ignorant to see the "obvious better answer" (forest/trees etc.). If there is not a better solution and considering the way the PLDs are replacing "fixed logic", one would hope that Protel was working on a more elegant solution for SP7/SP8. As one possible example of a suggestion, I would certainly be willing to accept the creation of a "reserved control character" in pin names (and/or electrical type) that would allow the project cache copy of the symbol to be updated via a new command from a specified format text file (end-user responsibility to generate). I can even conceive of achieving this by a database server function (although I would be incapable of writing it!). I can even conceive of paying actual money (although not too much) to someone who had a third-party add-on program for Protel that provided this function.
