Excellent! Just what I have been wanting for soooo long now! Another
corporate name change!
NOT!
I wonder what those Protel board members would decide if the questions were
asked a different way. Example:
Instead of:
Q: Should we change our name to X to reflect our new corporate focus on
total EDA solutions and improved customer service?
How about:
Q: Should we lose our hard-earned name recognition and piss away the
millions of $ in advertising we have spent and free publicity we have been
given over the years?
What do you think the answer would have been?
Other (in)famous corporate name changes:
AT&T -> Lucent (in trouble now)
HP -> Agilent (still good, but sounds like 'flatulent')
Anderson Consulting -> Accenture (yawn)
Honeywell -> GE (oops, didn't quite make it!)
AMP -> Tyco (still good, but a connector is a connector is a
connector...Hey, don't those guys make those HO guage hobby trains?)
