Stephen,

While you're experimenting, you might like to play with the
processes ExportSchematicToDatabase and ImportSchematicFromDatabase.

Although the import function takes nearly forever, I've found these
two processes to be ideal when I want to make large scale changes to
part fields.

I use part fields to hold information like: manufacturer part numbers,
distributor order codes, common footprint name (while the actual PCB
footprint might be MO-187-AA, I keep a common name of MSOP-8 in order
to assist the prototype assemblers), etc. I find it much easier to
add all this stuff in Excel, before reimporting to Protel using the
designator as a key (obviously the project needs to be fully annotated
before the export).

Cheers,

John Haddy
