Around 560,000 German students plus thousands of staff at 33 German
universities will now be supported by Linux systems from Novell.

The Federal State of North Rhine Westphalia has selected Novell to
support the critical IT infrastructure systems at the universities in
its region.

The system includes the Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop platform. The move
is designed to give the colleges a cheaper sytem whilst also giving them
a more flexible IT architecture when compared to other proprietary
software.

The college software also includes the use of Suse Linux Enterprise
Server, Novell Open Enterprise Server, Novell Identity Manager and
Novell Zenworks.

Novell already has similar state-wide agreements with universities in
the Federal States of Thuringia and Bavaria.
