I've checked in a version of psppire which now achieves basic reading/writing/editing of system files. I think it's reasonably robust and maybe on the verge of being usable for semi-serious work. There's a lot of scope for improvement, but I think it's a good start. Let me know how you find it.
In order to get to this stage, I had to make a fairly drastic modification to the GtkSheet widget. I'm talking to the maintainer of that library with a view to having these mods incorporated into his code. If he doesn't want to do that, then we'll just have to maintain our own fork here. Any bugs you find please let me know. Any missing features that aren't listed in TODO please let me know. Any missing features which are listed in TODO, but the absence of, you think, makes the software unusable please let me know that too.
