Follow-up Comment #1, patch #5808 (project pspp):
Isn't it redundant to have AUTOMAKE_OPTIONS and AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE?
The automake manual lists this form of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE as deprecated. So
perhaps we should change it anyway.
One of the reasons we decided to move to 1.10 was that the test programs
didn't get the $(EXEEXT) appended in version 1.9
