Follow-up Comment #5:
I'm attaching my proposal as a "quilt" format patch set. I don't know
whether you're familiar with quilt. If not, then the format is just a bunch
of patch files and a "series" file that specifies the order of the patches and
in a few cases also a -p0 argument to patch (the default for quilt is -p1).
The basic difference is that I wanted to maintain case_map as a more abstract
data type. That kind of snowballed into me discovering that there was a fair
amount of cleanup that could happen around it. For example, a dict_compactor
is really just a case_map, but it wasn't organized that way.
