I don't think he knew to look for the pspp-convert program.
In case that wasn't enough: to decrypt an encrypted file "encrypted.sav"
into a plaintext file "plaintext.sav" with pspp-convert, run it like
this:
pspp-convert encrypted.sav plaintext.sav
and then type the password when prompted.
