Yes, that's something that would be very useful.  I'm reading GNU
inetutils/telnetd, which is derived from the BSD lite networking
tools, and has login code for several platforms.

I'll see what I can abstract away from that mess, and package up into
a few lsh_objects.  There are several portability nasties,
though... I've been around krb5 and logdaemon long enough to recognize
that things aren't always as pretty as they are on BSD. :(
