I've also ordered the Hawking Technology NIC card which is even cheaper than the CompUSA card at $9.99 on Amazon.com. There is a reader review on Amazon indicating the card is Linux compatible. I have a Hawking USB 1.1 4-port hub for like $12 and this is connected to my wife's machine. Works great. It is a little hard to plug the USB connectors into but I've no complaints.
Some day I'll have to play with boot roms.
Thanks
Bob

1. What are the empty IC sockets on 10/100 PCI ethernet cards for?
no hard drive.
2. And where would I obtain whatever plugs into them?Vendor of the nic would probably have them. Replacing the nic with one
that already has them may be easier.
