Is this the supposed to be the same test as the mediacheck routine? I
tried this on both an umounted and mounted disc #1 and in both cases it
appears to read the disk for a few minutes and then gives
[jweber@ceora RH8.0]$ md5sum /dev/cdrom
md5sum: /dev/cdrom: Input/output error
[jweber@ceora RH8.0]$
In /var/log/messages I get...
Oct 8 08:40:39 ceora kernel: hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Oct 8 08:40:39 ceora kernel: hdc: command error: error=0x54
Oct 8 08:40:39 ceora kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector
1318976
Oct 8 08:40:47 ceora kernel: hdc: command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Oct 8 08:40:47 ceora kernel: hdc: command error: error=0x54
Oct 8 08:40:47 ceora kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector

This is on a RH7.1 system. I also get this on a RH8.0 system with
different error numbers but very similar messages. When I boot with this
disk and run mediacheck it passes. I tried to upgrade a RH7.3 system
using this disk and it failed part way through. Some error about reading
the gawk package and then another box popped up about an anaconda error.
I saved the error info to floppy and if anybody wants it I can post it
(26KB gzip'd). I was able to do the upgrade by nfs using the iso images
OK.
I've run the mediacheck before and after the attempted upgrade and after
the "md5sum /dev/cdrom" test. It passed in all cases. My iso's on hard
drive pass md5sum test. I used
cdrecord -v -eject speed=2 dev=0,0,0 <image.iso>
to burn the CD's. Any ideas what's going on? Do I have 2 bad cdrom
drives?
Thanks,
John
