Put simply, SquirrelMail only works in conjunction with an existing working
mail system. If you don't already have a working mail system then
SquirrelMail isn't going to work either.
So, forget about SquirrelMail for the moment, are you able to send and receive
mail on the system that you want to run SquirrelMail on?
If the answer is no, then you would need to resolve that problem first.
