Did you ever get a response? Your example above has a critical line
commented out. To make what you want work, you should modify the
start section of /etc/init.d/vncserver thusly:
"su ${display##*:} -c \"cd ~${display##*:} && [ -f .vnc/passwd ] &&
vncserver :${display%%:*} $ARGS\""
Note the addition of $ARGS.
