Subject: Re: going to the mac world

Hi. A Hackintosh approach is not advisable for many reasons... You
don't get all of the voiceover functionality when booting from the OSX
dvd and this will leave you stuck if you need to run anything from the
dvd EG;if you need to reinstall the OS among other things.

Apple has tight control on all of the hardware in their machines. this
is one reason why OSX and pro tools is the industry standard in
commercial studios and academic environments etc. I'd bet money that
you will have issues going down the Hackintosh route...

Finally, you would not get any support from Apple or Avid as OSX is
only meant to be ran on an Apple macintosh computer.

Still, if you must do this, then any version of pro tools from 8.04
onwards will run under OSX 10.6 or 10.7. for now, there are some
issues with Voiceover in 10.8 Mountain Lion which prevent certain
things in pro tools from being accessible with Voiceover. This is
frustrating, but, there may be a fix in the works. Until one is
actually available, do not go with 10.8 Mountain Lion.

For now, you'd be in a much better spot even picking up an upgraded
older Macintosh that is OSX 10.6 friendly. A lot of studios still use
G5 Macs and they get the job done...

The new mac mini and lower end iMac are great choices as well and they
aren't very expensive.

Cameron.
