Hi Krister, I'd encourage you to just go ahead with it. You're not going to accomplish much by staying on the sidelines. There will be things that will come easy and other things will pose challenges. Be a pioneer like so many folks who have ventured into unknown territory and I'm sure you won't regret it.
As far as I can remember, there aren't multiple functions for much of the 003. One thing I do recall is that the track select buttons have two different functions depending on the status of one other button. In other words, they normally function as track select buttons but when the track record button is pressed those select buttons become record enable buttons for the individual tracks. A light probe will be your friend in this case. You'll also find that editing becomes so much easier with the surface, not to mention simple things like muting, soloing and volume changes, automation, etc. Further, flip mode will help with plug-in parameters. You just have to dive in. there will undoubtedly be times when you'll need sighted assistance to help identify certain things but, if you are a diligent notetaker, you'll be able to refer to the things you don't commit to memory.
