Hi Steve, Volume Automation with out a hard surface and ProTools may be difficult. What you can try though, Use Clip Gain. Select the track and highlight the location you want to edit. To lower the level of say your vocals, hold down control, shift, and down arrow to the volume you want.
Use the same key command with up arrow to raise said vocals. Remember your start and end point must be set correctly hope this helps PS you can undo this function with undo...
