Make sure you have your metering preferences set correctly in the Preferences dialog. Maximize the Mix window. Hide unnecessary inserts and sends. Make sure Meters and faders is checked under the Mix Window submenu of the Views menu. Make sure the full channel strip is scrolled into view. If in doubt, use the Scroll to Track command. Make sure you have enough gain reduction happening to be detectable. Exaggerate it temporarily so that you're sure to have reduction. It works. You just have to make sure the conditions for it to work are right. Let us know when you got it going.
