Hi Lin, I'm glad to hear you appreciate what PTP's doing. We'd love to
see you get involved as well.

Are you trying to connect at the Lucky Lab, or from your home? Do you
see the www.personaltelco.net network in your Airport menu?

As far as security goes for your Mac, you have a couple built-in
preference panes that you'll want to take a look at.

The first is Security, where you'll want to consider using the
Firewall feature (in Tiger this is under Sharing). The firewall
prevents other computers from connecting to your computer, and you
have a few options to determine the level of security you feel is
appropriate. This will depend on how you use the computer, so I can't
really make a recommendation.

The second is Sharing (or if you're on Tiger, this is pretty much the
only one). Here you can turn File Sharing on and off, as well as some
other features that allow access to parts of your system. File Sharing
is pretty well locked down on the Mac, so you can safely share certain
things, if you want to, without worrying about your other files, or
just leave if off if you don't have a reason to use it.

Both these steps are highly dependent on your individual style of
computer use and your comfort level. If you do come to a meeting, be
sure to ask someone for advice on what would be the best mix of
security and usability for your purposes.
