I have not done anything with Ralink wireless. AP mode is actually
something of a rarity, at least historically. Madwifi supports it on
Atheros radios. Hostap-drivers supported it on Prism radios. The new
mac80211 wireless stack on Linux has been gradually improving support
for access point mode. Typically, as I have read, that support is via
the hostapd software (note that the hostap drivers (for Prism) and the
hostapd daemon are distinct and, except for their author and in a
general sense of what they aim towards, orthogonal things). I have no
successful experience with hostapd at all in extremely limited
attempts.

If you want to try to run the radio inside the EEE Box in AP mode, I
would look first at the manpage for the hostapd daemon, and/or ask
pointed concrete questions of the linux-wireless.org people. I would
not at all be surprised to find that AP mode doesn't work reliably on
that hardware at the present time, though I might well be wrong as
well. In short, I would not expect success.

Oh, one other thing, the radio inside the EEE Box is *probably*
(again, I could be wrong) not a mini-PCI, but rather a PCI Express
Mini Card:

Compare with:

All the 802.11n cards I have seen or heard of are of the newer express
variety. Reviewers often don't seem to understand that they are
different and incompatible physical, not to mention presumably
electrical, interfaces.
