Being a regular 3G card user, I see this as a great little device. The number of times that I've had to create an ad-hoc connection to share the 3G with another user is countless and this would definitely make it easier. The only downside is that if the battery dies so does your 3G, but the 5 hour battery life is more than most laptops anyway.
I know that this should be doable with a 3G phone, but bluetooth just sucks for data sharing and I would prefer a wifi connection to the 3G connection. I know that bluetooth 2.1 is supposed to have better data transfer rates, but they still suck as does the range. And in extreme circumstances I have had to use 3G connections as a temporary solution when a main office connection dies or as a temporary connection during a move. I could see a decent amount of uses for this device to make it viable, now if only AT&T had it you could swap your sim between this and a standard 3G modem. That would be a perfect scenario.
